学会の趣旨
日本図学会は、機械工学、情報工学、建築、美術、各種デザイン等、多様な分野の専門家が、図や形を扱う立場から、図形の幾何学的性質や表現方法に関する研究、コンピュータグラフィックスに関する研究、図形の創造的能力や認識能力の研究とそれらの知見に基づいた教育方法に関する研究等において研鑽を重ね、その研究成果を互いに情報交換し合う場として機能してきました。
本学会は、1967年に日本図学研究会として発足（1969年、日本図学会と改称）しましたが、当初より、図学を広く「Graphic Science」として捉え、幅広い活動を行ってきております。日本図学会が発行している学会誌『図学研究』をご覧いただければ本学会が学際的な実践を進める研究集団としての特徴を発揮していることがご理解頂けるものと存じます。
また、本学会は、日本学術会議に登録されているほか、図学国際会議（ICGG: International Conference on Geometry and Graphics）にも第1回（バンクーバー、1978年）から積極的に参加しております。近年の会議では、発表論文数、会議参加者数のいずれにおいても、日本図学会を中心とするわが国からの参加がほぼ最大となっており、国際的な視野からも本学会の活動は高く評価されているものと自負しております。
また、これらの国際会議を契機として1990年に設立された国際図学会（ISGG: International Society for Geometry and Graphics）においても日本図学会のメンバーが中心的役割を数多く果たしており、国際図学会が発行する英文ジャーナル "Journal for Geometry and Graphics" には、わが国からの投稿論文が多数掲載されています。
図や形の創造やその表現に関心をお持ちの方、コンピュータグラフィックスや CAD に関心をお持ちの方、図や形の創造的能力や認識能力を高めるための教育に関心をお持ちの方、動機は何であれ、それぞれの専攻分野を超えて、図や形を共通の関心対象として、一堂に会することには大きな意義があり、必ずや新鮮な発見と発想が得られるものと存じます。
The society provides a forum of experts in the various fields to discuss their research results related to geometry and graphics as well as the educational methods cultivating spatial abilities and skills for representing 2D figures and 3D shapes.
The society willingly invites all the people who are interested in design and creation of figures and shapes using graphics including skills in CG/CAD, abilities of 2D and 3D shape recognition, educational methods and so on. Members of the society can obtain innovative findings and ideas related to geometry and graphics through the discussion of experts from multiple specialties.

Japan Society for Graphic Science was established in 1967. The scope of the society covers various fields of mechanical engineering, information engineering, architecture, fine arts and design, as you may see from the contents of the ‘Journal of Graphic Science of Japan’, a periodical publication.The society provides a forum of experts in the various fields to discuss their research results related to geometry and graphics as well as the educational methods cultivating spatial abilities and skills for representing 2D figures and 3D shapes.
